Tom Daley: Olympic Diver and Knitting Pro
Meet Tom Daley, the Olympic Diver, who is bringing knitting to a whole new level!
Competing in the Olympics is the highest honor an athlete can reach. As most competitors are anxiously awaiting their turn to shine, and relying on their pre-competition rituals to get them in the zone, one Olympian has turned to knitting as a way to pass time.
Tom Daley, the five time olympic medalist on the Great Britain diving team, taught himself how to knit during Covid lockdown in 2020 and fell in love with the craft. He recently unveiled his latest design on his dedicated craft instagram @madewithlovebytomdaley, featuring a Paris themed Olympic games sweater with his last name on the back!
The first project he worked on was a Tokyo Olympics themed sweater, to pay homage to his time at the Games that year, consisting of a cream colored cardigan embroidered with “Tokyo” in Japanese.
The instagram page boasts over a million followers and fans are kept up to date on the progress of Daley’s latest projects. The newest olympic sweater kept the diver busy during every stolen moment during this year's Olympic games - whether he was watching his teammates compete or resting between his own event!
Fans can also purchase work from his website, www.bytomdaley.com, which features hoodies, t-shirts, crop-tops and tank-tops! You can also find the link to his 'Made With Love’ podcast, where Tom speaks to inspirational people across music, social media, activism, sport and more to find out how they’ve done the things they love. Additionally, fans can purchase Tom Daley knitting kits and start to learn the basics!
Are we witnessing a new tradition for the Olympic diver? Whatever it is, we are excited to see his next creation!
